The Modena has existed for many centuries. It has been known to be bred as a flying breed dating as far back as 1327. In the last quarter of the 1800's the Modena began the process of changing from a flying breed to that of the Show breed we have today.
The National Modena Club preserves and promotes this breed and has a membership of over 500.
The Modena is bred in two groups, schietti and gazzi. It is also bred in magnani (almond).
(Above information originally accumulated by Stephen Scott NB.)
